Next, we looked at 42 of these local businesses. We referred to Indonesian media and investigation reports from local and global environmental organizations. ‘Chain Reaction Research’, an overseas research institute related to ‘sustainability’, also helped with the investigation. As a result of the investigation, 9 out of 42 companies were directly or indirectly responsible for deforestation in Indonesia.
Newstapa
Deforestation is a major cause of the climate crisis. The Korea Center for Investigative Journalism-Newstapa, hosted by the International Association of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), covered the deforestation issue in various countries with 39 media outlets and 140 journalists around the world. Newstapa reports the results of the international collaboration project ‘Deforestation Inc.’, which has been in progress for the past several months, in turn with media outlets around the world.
